Grand River Gardens is home to a Community Supported Agriculture program, where members of the public can sign up to receive a share in fresh, local, organically-grown produce directly from the farm. We are currently operating on half an acre just north of the town of Grand Valley, Ontario. We are located on a family farm that hosts a diversity of activities including a dairy goat operation, a farm store and a pasture-raised pig and chicken operation as well as our naturally-grown vegetable and herb production. We often have extra produce for sale in the on-farm store Landman Gardens & Bakery!
My name is Elaine and I'm passionate about growing the food that sustains us. As a sustainability enthusiast (with a background in sustainable architecture) and yoga teacher I am conscious of how much we are what we eat! I grew up on a sheep farm in Ireland and I've travelled across Europe working on various organic, regenerative and permaculture-based farms & gardens. I found that although farming is very labour intensive, it is the simplicity of the lifestyle and it's connection to the land and community that makes it a labour of love for me. I moved to Canada in 2014 to work in the Niagara Region and in 2016 I moved to the farm in Grand Valley. When the opportunity arose for me to grow my own organic food in Ontario I thought....how can I share all this healthy goodness with others in a sustainable and affordable way? When I learned about the CSA model I knew it was perfect for connecting our farm with the community and giving health-conscious people access to organic food at a fair price..... ....And so Grand River Gardens was born!
Why we do it
...because we love to work long hours and get farmer's tans!... But also...There's a growing awareness among consumers about how closely linked our health and wellness is to our food. People want the most nutrient-rich food possible for themselves and their families while benefitting the environment and for a fair price. In our opinion, that's not too much to ask! Our growing methods ensure there are no inorganic chemicals on or in your food and the soil is nourished and rejuvenated naturally to produce an abundance for future generations. Lucky for us food, environmental sustainability, economic sustainability and cultural heritage are all inextricably linked. Support local organically-grown food and the rest follows suit!
Grand River Gardens aims to serve the local community and build local resilience to any fluctuations in food or economic security. All our efforts are made with compassion and love for what we do and the community we serve.
